Mobile cognitive computing
and
machine learning:The benefits to
mobile
user experience and
implications for the mobile

Director of Marketing for
Qualcomm Technologies, Inc |
Qualcomm |
Qualcomm Technologies Inc., will detail the benefits of mobile cognitive computing and review the impact and evolution of smartphone user experience and the mobile application processor (SoC). Beginning from discrete computational components and moving quickly to heterogeneous processing, we are now in an era where there is sufficient processing performance within a properly designed mobile SoC to fully enable cognitive computing applications, machine learning and more. This on-device ability has the potential to usher in a new wave of applications, services and capabilities for mobile users that will enhance user experience, dramatically expand the capabilities of mobile devices and make interacting with our mobile devices more fun and intuitive than ever before. |

Mobile Storage Innovation &
OEM Monetization (Outline) |
Christopher Bergey,
VP and GM of Mobile,
Tablet and Wearable Solutions,
Mobile and Connected Solutions |
SanDisk |
The mobile space continues to charge ahead at breakneck speeds due to the ever-escalating application & usage demands. These, in turn, translate to ever-increasing mobile device specifications from display pixel density, number of concurrent radio bands, number of multi-GHz cores, increasing RAM capacities, mushrooming non-volatile storage etc. That said, consumers remain cautious in their spending unless the mobile device performance results in a tangible benefit to them, especially in terms of user experience. So, this mobile innovation race has put significant pressure on mobile device makers, who must balance their investment in device user experience and profitability.
In this session, Chris Bergey, Vice-President and General Manager of Mobile and Tablet Solutions at SanDisk, will discuss mobile storage contribution to these trends and explore storage innovations that shift this paradigm. He will address how storage innovation help mobile manufacturers improve their bottom line and provide high margin opportunities in product positioning. For example, the mobile device maker can capitalize on the parameter growth (e.g. storage capacity) which is crucial to the end user rather than redundant product specifications (e.g. # of CPU cores). |

The Past, Present, and Future of
Wireless Charging (Outline) |

In this presentation, a comparison is made between the 1800’s “Alternating Current” versus “Direct Current” war to implement electric energy, and “Inductive” versus “Resonant” wireless charging today.
As history shows, our everyday electric devices now use both. AC and DC exist side by side. A similar argument can be made for the two magnetically coupled wireless standard technologies, each will have its own sweet spot.
Today there are products that can automatically detect and operate with both inductive and resonant wireless charging technologies. This will help the consumer to embrace wireless charging without fear of buying into the wrong technology. This presentation will also address new technologies, using microwave energy for power transfer that promises wireless charging at far greater distance than possible with magnetic coupling technology.
